Extended Tummy Tuck

Extended Tummy Tuck in Dallas and Plano

An extended tummy tuck (abdominoplasty) involves making a longer incision than a traditional tummy tuck to remove extra skin of the abdomen and the flanks. As opposed to a lower body lift, circumferential abdominoplasty or belt lipectomy (all essentially the same procedure), this operation does not address excess skin of the outer thighs or buttocks. Candidates for an extended tummy tuck typically have lost significant weight prior to surgery, either through diet and exercise, or with bariatric surgery.

If a patient has loose skin and droopiness of the outer thigh and buttocks, as well as excess skin and fat of the abdomen and flanks, than a lower body lift may a better operation. If a patient is concerned primarily with the abdomen and flanks, and not so much with the back, buttock and thighs, an extended tummy tuck is a better option. If a patient is unsure, it is possible to break up all of these procedures into two distinct operations.

The best option is to have a thorough consultation with a plastic surgeon certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery.
