January 9, 2012Age is not a barrier for tummy tuck. It is common for women ranging from their mid-twenties to mid-sixties to undergo a tummy tuck to improve the appearance of their abdominal wall.
The patient is a 49 year old woman who was unhappy with her bulging abdominal wall after pregnancy. She underwent an abdominoplasty tummy tuck with liposuction of the love handles and reshaping of the belly button umbilicus. January 9, 2012Pregnancy will often leave the tummy (abdomen) with a roll or bulge of skin and fat below the belly button. The most effective combination for treating this is a tummy tuck with removal of skin and fat, reshaping of the belly button, and tightening of the abdominal wall muscles.
The patient is a 28 year old woman who had multiple pregnancies, resulting in a saggy abdominal wall. Dr. Jejurikar performed a tummy tuck with flank liposuction and the patient is seen 8 months after surgery.

November 2, 2011I recently had a Dallas tummy tuck patient ask me, “Dr. Jejurikar – do I really need to have my muscles tightened? I’ve heard that a tummy tuck is much less painful if the muscles aren’t tightened. Why can’t you just remove some skin and get the same result.”
This case illustrates the importance of muscle tightening (plication) with a tummy tuck. With multiple pregnancies, the muscles of the abdominal wall often separate. That causes the outward bulging of the abdominal wall seen in the preoperative photos on the left. With tightening of the abdominal wall, that bulge goes away, giving the abdominal wall a much flatter appearance, as seen as the postoperative photos on the right.

The patient is a 52-year-old woman who experienced significant fluctuations in weight after multiple pregnancies. She developed extra skin of the abdominal wall as well as significant laxity (looseness) of the abdominal wall muscles. She underwent a tummy tuck with removal of extra skin and tightening of the abdominal wall muscles. Liposuction of the love handles and upper abdomen was also performed. She is seen 3 months after surgery with a tighter tummy!
Although this patient was quite thin, the bulging of the abdominal wall she had can only be addressed by tightening of the abdominal wall muscles. With this, she experienced a significantly flatter tummy. To learn more about tummy tuck, contact Dr. Jejurikar’s office via the web or at 214.827.2814.
